Modern abstract expressionist painting by Houston, TX artist James Bettison. The work features a loose, central rendering of a blue and yellow vase or vessel set against a red toned background. Currently hung in a black floating frame with a white matting. Dimensions Without Frame: H 48.75 in. x W 20 in. Artist Biography: James Bettison lived from 1958 to 1997. He was an early participant in the DiverseWorks artist in-residence program in the early 1980's. Bettison was one of the original seven African-American artist who began Project Row Houses, a project that took a block of shotgun houses in the impoverished Third Ward community of Houston and turned them into a site for positive and creative change.
