The transparent quality of Jane’s painting technique allows for a layering of colours that really brings the canvas to life. My paintings are inspired by travel. Pulling together memories of places I have travelled to through mark making. Influences as far as India and Morocco sit alongside more familiar places such as the Sussex Downs and Irish coastline. Colour is integral to my work. Prior to becoming an artist I worked in the fashion industry surrounded by beautiful fabrics and textures. This, I believe, has been a big influence on me in my practice. I use a cocktail of bright and vibrant colours with dashes of fluorescent pinks, oranges and yellows. I let the colours and layers mix themselves on the canvas. For me the act of painting is a continuous process always changing, always taking away to create something new. My latest work brings together all that I love, from the wild colours of India and Morocco to the coastal hues of West Sussex and the Downs. My paintings are intuitive: the colours are an extension of my personality coming through however hard I try to curb them. As an artist I reference the ever-changing outlines of the landscape and identify with shape, form and structure. I am influenced by all that I encounter, seen through a filter shaped by my love of the new and the different. Colour is the essence ……
