About the Item

Janet Keith Rosy,Rosy Original Abstract Painting Acrylic paint on Board Board Size: H76 cm x W101 cm x D0.30 cm Sold framed
Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. Rosy, Rosy is an original abstract painting by Janet Keith. The painting is built up of many layers of line and areas of transparent and opaque colour. It is joyful, lively and full of movement. The predominately red and pink colours with black and white look vigorous, energetic and warm. My paintings are never intended to be representations of things or places but rather they suggest mood and atmosphere in a manner similar to instrumental music. I listen to various recordings in the studio while painting – salsa, birdsong, opera, Baroque concertos…the rhythms and cadences can all find their way into the paintings unconsciously. Janet Keith is a contemporary painter based in the U.K. Her painting is a response to the visual excitement and beauty of her surroundings. Her artistic roots are in outdoor painting, working directly from life. However, that rich experience now informs a more abstract and mostly studio based approach to painting – which has become an exploration of how spontaneous gesture and considered pictorial structure weave together in building an expressive painting. Janet works in an unplanned, improvisational and intuitive way – with one mark or colour opening possibilities for the next. Sometimes this results in an entirely abstract image. Often the painting echoes the very rural surroundings of her studio and influences from travels near and far. Janet comments, ‘…I am so often surprised to have made a painting which I could never have imagined or planned in advance. I like to think that in painting I am releasing some ‘joie de vivre’ and reflecting back into the world some of the wonder I find there…’. Janet has Degrees in both the History of Art and Painting. She exhibits regularly in the UK and has paintings in private collections in the UK, USA, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and Australia.

    By Richard J. Watson
    Located in Bryn Mawr, PA
"In The Nick Of Time" is an abstract collage / painting created from acrylic and found objects on leather mounted on round MDF panel. The work itself is 20" diameter, framed to 23" diameter in a wide, dark brown round wooden frame with two bronze painted rings. It includes several photograph of figures. It is signed and dated along the lower edge. PROVENANCE: Exhibited in "Portals + Revelations: Richard J. Watson," the African American Museum in Philadelphia, Oct 2021 - Mar 2022. "Most of my works are supported by memories of the past and suggested realities. Issues of social politics, ancestral references, and astral projections are presented with fragmented elements of 'real life' collaged and collapsed, as dreams are prone to do. If connections are made, all the better. I feel that life should remind us of our dreams." - Richard J. Watson Richard J. Watson is an icon in the Philadelphia art world. Much of his work relates to his experiences as a Black African American man. He is a graduate of Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1968), has taught at his alma mater, and has served in the Exhibitions Department at the African American Museum in Philadelphia since the 1980s. He has been exhibiting his work for decades, and has an extensive bibliography. His work is held in the Petrucci Family Foundation Collection of African American Art; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts; the Uniworld Corporation; Sony; the Federal Reserve Bank; the City of Philadelphia; Sprint; the Church of the Advocate; the poet Dr. Sonia Sanchez; and the Woodmere Museum...
