Jay Walker
Prismatic Polygon XXI: geometric abstract painting w/ pattern, red purple gold

2020

About the Item

Jay Walker is best known for his large-scale, site-specific installations and collector's pieces created with laser-cut vinyl, colored acrylic sheets, artist-made stencils, tape, and paint. His use of pattern, lines, color, and geometry references the aesthetic traditions of Sol Lewitt and Henri Matisse, applied to the contemporary experience. In Walker's newest series, his prismatic polygons appear to shift color and shape depending on the viewing perspective. Walker's paintings work particularly well in a pair or series -- each sold separately, but could be combined for shipping at no additional charge. All are signed, dated, and titled in the lower margin. 40" X 26.5" artwork is floated on a white, archival acid-free mat board and framed to 46" x 32" in a white wood frame with UV protected acrylic glazing. Walker earned his MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, and his BFA from Texas A&M at Corpus Christi. He has had international commissions across the US and internationally, and solo exhibitions at galleries throughout the mid-Atlantic and southwest.

Stark contrast of dark background with bright shapes and elements create drama and tension.
