Original abstract painting with dramatic tonal qualities. Rhythmical movement with a loose use of paint which is then worked into. Qualities and suggestions from the natural world and skies at night. Deep stretcher painted in neutral tone.
A retired Art teacher who now paints full time, she is inspired by her travels and walking along Coastal paths as well as mountains in the Lake District and as far afield as the Himalaya and Peru. Jo works from sketches and memories, and is excited by extreme conditions, which produce dramatic lighting and effects. Always wanting to suggest images that are unclear and can be interpreted by the viewer in different ways. She works with layers of paint to suggest a mystery for the viewer to experience. Some paintings contain figurative references, others are abstract. Paintings exhibited with Wychwood are all in oil and gesso on either board or canvas.
