About the Item
Artist Comments
"Silence is suggested by these colors, and too, the safety and quiet of select spaces," says artist Joey Korom. "Art can do this, and this piece whispers about security through its hues. Almost a dozen colors contribute to the composition; gray may dominate but other colors seep in from the edges and from beneath the surface." The piece is framed in a hand-built oak hardwood frame that measures 2" in depth and .25" thick.
About the Artist
Joey Korom is an abstract expressionist painter who has been a practicing artist for 50 years. He experiments with media, colors, and textures to produce artwork that is “purely optical;” that is, artwork meant to engage the viewer, visually and emotionally, without employing any associations outside of the work itself. Joey is passionate about this expressive type of abstraction, an artistic mode that escapes the rules of perspective and realism. His educational and professional background is in architecture, which he considers to be “the father of all arts.” The use of line, shape, and proportion in Joey’s work is visibly influenced by his experience as an architect, but he seeks to avoid the rigidity involved in architectural draftsmanship. He focuses instead on underlying structure, seductive color, and loose brushwork. The artist sees his style as a personal liberation from the demands of architectural drawing, and yet, he’s never lost the disciplines he was taught.

- Floral Abstract, Abstract PaintingBy Julia HackerLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
Artist Julia Hacker displays enticing abstraction of floral forms that blend the elements of fauvist landscapes and naturalistic plein-air scenes. The harmony between organic shapes and the vibrant hues of magenta, orange, and white adds mystery to the jungle setting. The interplay of light and dark tones gives depth and a sense of allure to the composition.About the Artist
Julia works from a studio in her home that overlooks a wooded ravine and finds inspiration in the natural order of the universe. Her art draws from many sources of imagery, but consistently possesses a magical and ethereal quality. Whether the image depicts stylized snowfall, glistening flora, or a collaged figure, the work exudes a fleeting element of beauty that transcends reality. Julia primarily creates using painting or illustrated collage. When she paints, she foregoes sketching beforehand, instead allows emotion and intuition to drive the composition. Her collages are influenced by illustration techniques acquired from her Master’s degree in fashion design. Julia likes being able to switch between the two artistic methods, often working simultaneously on multiple projects to keep her creative inspiration fresh and constantly evolving.Words that describe this painting: organic shapes, plants, nature, abstract expressionism, leaves, floral, acrylicpaint, jungle, abstract, flora, abstract, flora, acrylic painting, orange
