About the Item

Red, orange, and yellow tonal painting with a checkered style floor or blanket that calls to Johannes Vermeer. This painting is not apart of a series but one of her later works done before her death. Painting is signed, dated, and titled by the artist on the back of the canvas. Canvas is not framed. Artist Biography: Karen Lastre was born in St. Paul, MN in 1940. She moved to Texas in 1965 where she began to work as a painter in 1969. She has been influenced by the color field abstract expressionist works like Mark Rothko. Her work has been purchased by private collectors throughout the United States and Europe. In 1994 she was a Merit Award at the Cheekwood Museum of Art in Nashville. She worked in a studio in Mid-Town at Art Square Studios. She showed her work in Dallas at the Mary Tomas Gallery where she had a individual show in 2011. She has recently passed in 2018.
