Kay Hartung’s “Microbial Gathering 1” is a 19.5 x 25 inch pastel drawing done on black Canson Mi Teintes paper. In colors of orange, pink, purple and white, the drawing is richly detailed with broad areas of color as well as fine lines. The use of the black paper intensifies the richness of the pastel colors. The inspiration comes from Hartung’s interest in the microscopic world. She imagines the energy and activity that occurs within living organisms on a cellular level. It is unframed and signed by the artist in the lower right corner.
