About the Item
This abstract painting titled 'About Summer,' by artist Lena Khvichia is a 16 x 20 oil on canvas. Khvichia uses a limited color palette of dark blue, dark green, and just a hint of red. The composition is mainly made up of dark blue paint, some areas painted more densely than other areas. This creates darker and lighter areas within the work, exhibiting a sort of blotchy look. In the lower right-hand side, we see the majority of a dark green triangle, also painted more densely in some areas and less in others. The triangle's only visible point is aimed towards the left of the canvas, thus one side of the triangle is facing towards the top of the canvas, but it is not quite parallel with it. We only see a portion of the other side, as it meets with the bottom of the canvas. A thin, straight red line (also blotchy in regards to the color) runs horizontally through the green triangle, starting from the right edge of the canvas, running just slightly past the bottom side of the green triangle and barely into the dark blue background. The line and the triangle's point are each positioned slightly to the left of the center and in the lower half of the canvas. Since the red line cuts through the bottom side of the triangle and does not go through the point, it is not centered in regards to the shape. By using dark tones and a limited palette in an abstract style, Khvichia creates a quiet and stylized composition, adhering to the aesthetic qualities of geometric abstraction.
Lena Khvichia reveals herself as a creative and undoubtedly gifted painter, interpreting Lithuanian coloristic painting tradition and abstract painting aesthetics in her own manner. She is an emotional artist: however her works are very constructive and well balanced in terms of composition, which disciplines, her hand's movements, and broad strokes. Lena Khvichia’s works, usually beings of tranquil surface facture, never seem flat, are seen as having depth, a third dimension, even though the paintings only vaguely imply the objects of the real world. The expressive layer can be recognized to a certain extent even in her most abstract works—mostly the reflections of subconscious impressions and moods experienced by the author.

- 'Solarium', by Anthony Dyke, Oil on Canvas Painting, 2022Located in Oklahoma City, OKAnthony Dyke's "Solarium," a 74 x 48 x 1.25 inch oil on canvas painting, references solar flares in its use of shape and color. The bright values of yellows, reds and blues surround a large red circular shape. The bright color wavelengths give this painting a vibrational energy. Anthony Dyke was born in Norwich, Vermont and attended The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University earning a BFA and MFA in painting. As an artist and arts educator, he relocated from New York City to his down¬town Oklahoma City studio, working there for two decades before returning to Boston in 2020. Coming from VERMONT where the seasons are distinctly different from one another. My shift from a pastoral setting to an urban environment set up a dichotomy in my work, both visual and emotional. I have an extensive education in painting, photography, graphic design and figure sculpture. These mediums intersect in my work through many years of creating artworks and currently speak to my interest in abstract painting. During my senior year in the BFA Program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, my large painting “Natole” was chosen by Frank Stella (the juror) into the highly competitive and prestigious Dana Pond...Category

- 'Cabana', by Anthony Dyke, Oil on Canvas Painting, 2016Located in Oklahoma City, OK"Cabana", by Anthony Dyke is a 36" x 48" x 1.5" oil on canvas painting. Its flag-like imagery is influenced by Jasper Johns' flag paintings. The layered and scraped surface in tropical blues, greens, whites and yellow, and its horizontal banding depicts a flag-like presence. The title references the bright, clear colors one might find in beach structures in seaside resorts.
