Leslie Zelamsky
"Ayeka", abstract, grey, black, neutral, mixed media, oil painting

2014

About the Item

Ayeka is a mixed media painting that includes the use of stain, tar and oil paint. The neutral, rich palette of grey and black evolves from adding and removing layers of paint. The surface includes an array of drips, transparency and opaqueness. Ayeka, Hebrew for "Where are you?," is the first painting in a four piece series. Leslie Zelamsky is a mixed media artist who creates paintings, sculptures and installations. Her paintings celebrate the contrasting aspects of the mind’s use of intuition and deliberate action. She uses paint, tar, stain, and other materials to create abstract images that reference architecture, light and space. Zelamsky’s sculpture explores the ideas of separation, inclusion and isolation; reflected in commonplace structures, through the use of common building materials. Zelamsky’s forms are concurrently architectural and organic. Physicality is an important part of the artist’s work as she seeks synergy between visual and physical weight. Intuition and process are fundamental as are allowing and patience. While Zelamsky’s sculpture and installations lean to political and societal issues, there is also an inherent seductive, aesthetic beauty in the form, space and texture. Zelamsky’s goal is to provide the viewer with an image that allows an ethereal experience. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

The top half of the piece showcases a beautifully painted sky, with soft, wispy clouds that seem to stretch out into infinity. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this unique work. Jeremy Prim creates each painting by using many thin layers of translucent oil paint tempered with cold wax. This process washes the artwork with a sense of foreshortening, bringing the viewer into the vastness of Prim’s subject. Prim is based in Seattle, Washington, and is inspired by his surroundings: “The paintings I create are evocative of the Pacific Northwest coast” states the artist. While referentially specific the paintings capture more than a singular scene “They are a collective of physical and sensory reinterpretations of the Pacific, primarily derived from memory and intuition.” REPRESENTATION Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles, USA SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2022 Blue Like the Ocean, Artspace Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2019 Michael Birawer Gallery, Seattle, WA 2018 Atelier Drome, Seattle, WA 2016 Wittman Estes, Seattle, WA 2015 Threshold Gallery @ Mithun, Seattle, WA GROUP EXHIBITIONS 2023 The Art of Water...
