"Medium Abstraction, Burgundy-Blue" Oil on Canvas, 12 x 12 Inches, is a brilliantly colored, gorgeous and lush abstraction, very expressionist and fluid in style in burgundy, blue and white with lesser amounts of yellow, lavender and green. Holt has an exquisite sense of color and a masterful touch, these works shimmer and sparkle. The paint surface is heavy impasto. This painting is unframed, the sides are white. There are numerous related works from this series in 8" x 8", 30" x 30" and 36" x 36" sizes, so groupings are also a possibility for installations. The artist also considers them as studies for larger paintings that can be commissioned in any size. "Linda Holt: Abstractions" will be on view at the Beth Urdang Gallery in Boston from September 21 - October 27, 2018. Linda Holt was raised in Philadelphia and lived in England, Alabama and Virginia before attending the Paris American High School and graduating from Skidmore College with a BS in fine art in 1970. She received an MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania where she studied with Neil Welliver. Holt’s paintings have been seen in 19 one-person exhibitions, over 50 group exhibitions, and in addition to numerous private collections, Holt’s paintings are included in many public collections including the Wichita Center for the Arts, Wellington Management, the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Fidelity Investments, Mass General Hospital, and the Seaport and Reef Hotels. Selected reviews include articles in “The Boston Globe,” “Art New England,” and the “Houston Chronicle.” Holt was awarded the Nathaniel Saltonstall Purchase Prize in Drawing, has been a Trustee and Visiting Artist at Montserrat College, a Guest Critic at FIT in New York, and a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania. The artist resides on the North Shore of Massachusetts and has been represented by the Beth Urdang Gallery since 1995.
