About the Item
"Three Pears" is an original encaustic painting done on board and block framed by DC African American artist, Lisa Jennings, whose work is inspired by natural forms and ideas and she uses the encaustic painting technique to better express herself . Encaustics is a hot wax technique where color is often infused into the wax to create interesting, beautiful , transparent, as well as obtain thick impasto surfaces.
The encaustic painting technique originated around 2000 years ago and comes from the ancient Greek word, enkaustikos, which stands for ‘to heat’ or ‘to burn.’ Heat is a very important part of the encaustic process and metal leaf is used on this painting, "Three Pears" as a way to add to the surface embellishments.
