About the Item
"Free Spirit" is a compelling 36" x 36" mixed media piece on canvas, resonating with the ethos of Abstract Expressionism. Its monochromatic palette, dominated by shades of white and gray with bold, assertive black strokes, creates a dramatic interplay of light and shadow. The fluidity and energy of the black forms suggest movement and spontaneity, while the subtle textures and layers in the background evoke depth and complexity. The title "Free Spirit" aptly reflects the artwork's sense of liberation and the unfettered expression of the artist's inner world. This piece invites viewers to a contemplative space, where forms and strokes coalesce into a personal interpretation of freedom and release.
About the Artist:
Lorraine Lawson's artistry lies at the intersection of the representational and the abstract, influenced by the transformative power of nature, culture, and architecture. Her work is an artistic tribute to the beauty of imperfection and the passage of time, drawing on the Japanese concept of Wabisabi to honor the beauty in the worn and broken. Lawson's abstract, textural paintings are rich with layers that evoke memories and a sense of place, achieved through innovative techniques with paint and encaustic mediums. Her practice involves a continual evolution of visual symbols and an exploration of techniques, all aimed at capturing the lyrical expressions of life's experiences. Her dedication to her craft is fueled by years of keen observation and a passion for expressing the profound narrative of life through her unique visual language.

- UntitledBy Michael GoldbergLocated in Austin, TXOil, pastel, and paper collage on canvas. Signed and dated verso. 52.75 x 47.75 in. 54 x 49 in. (framed) Gilded floater frame. Provenance Compass Rose, Chicago Born Sylvan Irwin Goldberg in 1924 and raised in the Bronx, Michael Goldberg was an important figure in American Abstract Expressionism, who began taking art classes at the Art Students League in 1938. A gifted student, Goldberg finished high school at the age of 14 and enrolled in City College. He soon found New York’s jazz scene to be a more compelling environment, and he began skipping classes in favor of the Harlem jazz clubs near campus. Goldberg’s love of jazz would become a lifelong passion and a key component to his approach to composition in his paintings. From 1940 to 1942, like many of the leading artists of the New York School, Goldberg studied with Hans Hofmann. In 1943, he put his pursuit of painting on hold and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Serving in North Africa, Burma, and India, Goldberg received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star before being discharged in 1946. After his service, he traveled and worked in Venezuela before returning to the United States, settling back in New York and resuming studies with Hofmann and at the Art Students League. Living downtown and frequenting the Cedar Bar, Goldberg befriended many of the artists of the New York School. In 1951, his work was included in the groundbreaking Ninth Street Show, co-organized by Leo Castelli, Conrad Marca-Relli, and the Eighth Street Club, and featuring the work of - among others - Hofmann, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Franz Kline. In 1953, the Tibor de Nagy...Category

- C1120 Unstretched Abstract Light Gree Blue White Quotes Words DictionaryBy Zach TouchonLocated in Beverly Hills, CAThis work is a part of the "Chaos and Control Theory" Series - the artist's signature series. It was created with the pages from an Oxford Dictionary of Quotations. This technique gives a special character to the work - you can play with it by asking questions, pointing to any part of the work, and you will get a meaningful phrase or a word. The work has blue and white colors. Great for the modern interior. The work is unstretched and will be shipped in a roll. -- "Chaos and Control Theory" Series is about depth and space. It’s about information overload, and what information looks like when you take out a meaning. I create lots of layers, using found materials and printed materials. I do an abstract expressionism painting on a surface first before I apply the printed and found materials. And then I begin to organize the surface, ultimately thinking about balance and flow and how the piece is going to contribute to the space it is going to be hanging in. -- Zach Touchon is an American contemporary abstract expressionist artist and muralist based in Los Angeles, CA. Besides that, Touchon is also an actor, a singer, a screenwriter, and a writer. Zach Touchon is an artist in the second generation. By rethinking abstract expressionism ideas, using different media he creates large abstract artwork along with small collages, huge...Category
