About the Item

Magdalena Morey Distant Horizons 2 Original Abstract Landscape Painting Mixed Media and Gold Leaf on Canvas Canvas Size: H 40cm x W 40cm x D 4cm Sold Unframed Ready To Hang Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. Distant Horizons 2 is an original painting by Magdalena Morey. Reflections on water are a recurring theme in my work! This fresh and airy beach scene oozes with atmosphere, with the cliffs dropping to the waterline in the horizon and the reflections on the wet sand. This original artwork uses a unique combination of gold leaf, acrylic and watercolour paints and pastels on a 3.5cm deep, gallery wrapped canvas. It is protected from dust and UV light by a thin layer of varnish. The painting continues around the sides of the piece, making this highly contemporary painting seem even larger than it is. I’ve loved art for as long as I can remember; as a child I was captivated by the textures and colours of the elements of my surroundings. In my teens I specialised in Textiles for 5 years at art college before studying Painting at university for another 5 years. Many years later, and I am still just as entranced by the worlds of colour and texture! My aim is to create artwork that intrigues and challenges our initial perceptions. I love the natural world and organic textures, forms and beauty are fundamental to my art. I am particularly fascinated in transient phenomena and enjoy using my art to attempt to capture the essence of individual moments in time. I have lived in Poland, England, Switzerland and now Spain and am passionate about travelling. I regularly start off a new series of paintings using a photo or a memory from one of my journeys as a starting point. As I work on the first composition, I’ll often find a detail or a technique that I’ll want to expand on and will begin a second canvas, and so on, with the degree of abstraction tending to increase with each iteration. Every painting is built up from multiple layers of acrylics, watercolours, pastels and gold leaf, with the goal of creating an interplay of texture, reflectivity and colour. I love using gold leaf due to the strength and vibrancy it brings to my work. Watercolours are often used to tint the metallic reflections, which leads to the colours changing continually with the viewer’s perspective and the lighting conditions.

  • Golden Lore IV - contemporary mixed media collage gold abstract
    By Russell Frampton

This recent body of work is informed by my continuing research into the physical and metaphorical nature of archaeological artefacts and votive objects, allied to the referencing of the symbolic forms and materiality of alchemy. Central to this practical investigation has been the use of ‘gold’, and the qualities that the material, with its obvious chromatic and symbolic values, seems to possess. This has driven both the conceptual and pragmatic concerns within the evolution of this work. Gold is an alluring and complex symbol of many, often conflicting meanings, avarice, greed, wealth but also of purity and celebration, and has been used as the adornment of spiritual and religious iconography as a devotional act for millennia. The titles refer to connections I have made with the forms themselves, often when making a painting a word will emerge which acts as a form of poetic catalyst. ‘Parsival’ or Percivale/Peredur was the knight questing for the holy grail...

DeMeo created this one-of-a-kind 36-inch square painting using acrylic paint and gold leaf which creates unique textures throughout the artwork. It is signed on the front and the back. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. Framing is not required. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, DeMeo is now based in Central Florida. Through his work, he seeks to express universal themes by bringing his eclectic personal experiences, philosophies, and emotions to the forefront. He has a deep belief in the power of art to bring transformation to both spaces and people. DeMeo’s artworks, packed with positive affirmations, have been collected across the United States. DeMeo focuses on exploring a concept that he has coined Synthesism™. It stems from the definition of the word synthesis: “the combining of often diverse elements into a coherent whole.” This theme of blending, combining, and remixing in many disciplines, especially music, architecture, and even culture leading to the growth of community is captured in his work. Modernism constructs, Post-modernism deconstructs, and Synthesism combines. Each of DeMeo’s artworks includes elements of precision and organic creation. The sharp lines offer a balancing contrast to details of drips, splashes, or scrapings that bring life to his work. DeMeo carefully layers each color while keeping attention to the relationships between them and the weight of each brushstroke. Every artwork offers intrinsic details and textures at a closer glance. Current movement influences include Abstract Expressionism, Bauhaus, Conceptualism, Gestalt, Human Centered Design, Wabi-Sabi, Black Mountain College.
