About the Item
Magdalena Pela deals with the signs of everyday life. In her works, she refers to the category of palimpsest, blurring traces, illegibility. She is fascinated by the mystery of the physicality of a gesture and signature. It raises the question of what happens when the sense of writing escapes us, when letters - signs of everyday life - become ornaments, and a sequence of signs - writing becomes a material phenomenon in itself. Strings of characters get lost at the same time on the new, purely visual one. It poses a question about the limit of readability.
There are sentences in the painting that he treats as waste of our digital reality: from messenger, text messages, emails, etc. That's why they are in capital letters. The artist refers more to their redundancy and accumulation than to the content.
There are words in Polish:: Together, I think I want it very much, see you soon, I miss you. It's my pleasure. and many others snippets of online conversations
