About the Item
'One but Two I ' from the Made In New York series, 2018 by Norwegian artist, Marit Geraldine Bostad. Acrylic on canvas, 12 x 12 in. This painting was created during her summer 2018 residency at the Eileen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation in Jersey City, New Jersey. Departing from her usual palette of warm, Nordic colors, Bostad’s recent paintings feature an explosion of vivid colors never seen in her work before. Utilizing thick, animated brushstrokes of acrylic paint, the active surface of the canvas incorporates bold colors in dark and light blue, red, orange, yellow, green, white, and black.
Bostad’s paintings are never planned. Working intuitively and spontaneously, Bostad’s abstract paintings are influenced by memories and people, whose essence she intuitively attempts to preserve on the canvas.
Marit Geraldine Bostad worked as an Art Director in Oslo, Norway for over 10 years before deciding in 2010 to pursue painting full time. In 2015, Bostad opened her own gallery/studio called Geraldine, and has exhibited her work since 2011 in London, Oslo, and New York, receiving substantial recognition from curators as well as galleries and collectors throughout Europe. The artist currently works and lives in Horten, Norway.

Marit Geraldine Bostad
Marit Geraldine Bostad is an abstract colorist. She earned her bachelor’s degree in art direction in Oslo in 1997. She works and lives in Horten in Vestfold County, Norway, and her studio is at an old naval base, where she finds most of her work inspiration — in the middle of great nature and historical buildings.
Bostad's paintings carry an emotionally charged impetus. Describing her practice as a kind of therapy and a way to switch off her mind, her feelings about her work are highlighted by their lasting impression on the viewer. Her abstract paintings are influenced by memories and people, whose essence she intuitively attempts to preserve on the canvas. Richly colored and textured, incorporating layer upon layer of acrylic paint, the canvases are imbued with a fresh, youthful approach, positivity and invigorating color palette.
