Artist biography:
Mark Acetelli, born in Detroit, is a multifaceted artist who traces his interest in art back to his mother’s passion for painting. Mark was brought up in an artistic household where he was encouraged to explore many forms of creative expression, including, music, painting, photography and poetry. Mark is a self taught artist and has an immense appetite for consuming as much knowledge as possible. From learning about the great masters to the history of art helped him to find an intellectual footing for his own visual language. Mark’s works are inspired by the intensely personal introspective journey of life, from the ever changing complexities of love, loss, birth and transformation. The context of his work he describes as “Simple expressions of complex thoughts, created by capturing the physical mixed with the spiritual.” He seeks to evoke a feeling rather than a defined image. Referring to his work as “Absence and Presence” referring to how something or someone can be gone, but a presence remains. Mark’s application of paint is an extension of that thought process. Using traditional brushes along with palette knives, rags and even his hands, he continuously builds up and tear down the surface, adding and subtracting, stripping away layers to achieve greater clarity of emotion. He uses primarily oils and encaustics. Each layer adds to the narrative and depth. Sometimes a painting must go through many deaths, in order to be born again. “During this creative process, I lose my attachment to the end result, this allows me to create freely and openly as possible and to communicate where the conscious and the unconscious intertwine”. Marks’ most recent works are his dialog with Rothko and the abstraction of land and seascapes. Using multiple thin layers of transparent pigments and blurring the surface give the reference of stopping time for a fraction of a second. Capturing the ephemeral encounters that pass unnoticed and that are fleeting. Mark works are in many private and corporate collections throughout the world including, US, Europe, Dubai, Japan, and South America.

Mark Acetelli was born in Detroit into an artistic household. Acetelli’s mother herself was a painter and some of his earliest memories were the smell of turpentine and oil paints. Growing up surrounded by his mother’s work, she inspired and encouraged him to become an artist. Acetelli’s paintings are inspired by the intensely personal introspective journey of life, from the ever-changing complexities of love, loss, birth and death. His application of paint is an extension of that thought process. He works by continuously building up and tearing down, layer upon layer, adding and subtracting. A visceral dance between the conscious and the unconscious until the emotion is expressed. Acetelli’s paintings may go through multiple incarnations with the past lying just beneath the surface, adding to its overall dimension and depth. In his work, he seeks to evoke a feeling rather than depict a defined image. Acetelli’s works can be found in many private and corporate collections around the world, including Bill Withers, Lisa Colburn, Colburn School of Music, Raytheon Corp, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, Michael Jordan, Stuart Beattie, Claire Forlani, Camryn Mainhiem and Francine Maisler.

Shin began studying the fundamentals of fine art from a young age. He trained in the basic principles of oil painting and watercolour, but still desiring more, Shin immigrated to the United States in pursuit of further education in the fine arts. In New York, he studied the Western tradition, familiarizing himself with the works of masters such as Camille Corot and Edward Hopper -- both of whom would continue to serve as sources of inspiration for Shin to this day. After his studies, Shin earned his Masters of Fine Art from Long Island University. In most recent years, Shin has dedicated his focus on New York cityscapes. The expressiveness of New York City -- its brilliant culture, vast history, and even the very streets of the metropolis -- has continued to inform his work as he develops his artistic voice. Shin’s ultimate goal is to transform the scenes of daily life into a kind of visual poetry through his technical mastery of breaking down color and light. That visual poetry is the basis of a new kind of art form which Shin hopes to create and convey, influenced by Korean calligraphy and the bold brushstrokes of Expressionism. Shin remains active in the art scene, showcasing his work at various art galleries including the Transform Gallery in New York City, Williams Gallery in New Jersey, Bucks County Gallery of Art in Pennsylvania, the Greenwich House Gallery in Ohio, Geary Gallery in Connecticut, and Saks Galleries in Denver, Colorado. He is also featured in the 2019 “Weather or Not: Art with Atmosphere” exhibition at the I.D.E.A. Museum in Arizona, and has participated in The Other Art Fair presented by Saatchi Art in Brooklyn, New York. Chin H Shin has a Master of Art Degree from Long Island University. His past affiliations include Oil Painters of America, American Society of Marine Artist, and Portrait Society of America, and has also been Juror of Award for Bold Brush International Art Competition and also current winner of The Bold Brush Award.
