About the Item

The young artist Marlet Heckhoff studied "Free Art" at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem, Israel. In 2015, she completed her studies in painting at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts. "I TAKE INSPIRATION FROM ARCHITECTURE OR TECHNOLOGY." MARLET HECKHOFF The environment is open and free. We are confronted with bright colors, neon yellow, orange and pink. Lines and shapes break apart or contract. Point-like structures format themselves into an architecture that seems out of balance.   Pictorial spaces fill with droplets, lines, hatches and color. Everything seems the same and permeable, simultaneously historical and present. Fiction and reality combine to create a visual, cosmic distillate of computer game aesthetics, street art, architecture, as well as media references. Insofar as one seems to have an association, one's gaze wanders back to pure form and dissolves it. An order, a system or a time are not recognizable. All pictorial components seem to want to resist their construction, as the title of the exhibition "Construction and Resistance" also suggests. Sketchy fragility and perfection pervade all of Marlet Heckhof's paintings in a well-tempered way. The struggle for forms, planes and lines takes place on the canvas and leads to a classical painting that can neither be classified as figurative nor as abstract. At the same time, the incompleteness of the implied motifs forms the basis for associations while viewing. Heckhoff draws from a large archive of images from art history. We can discover in Marlet's paintings the rethinking and merging of different visual habits and styles. It is surely no coincidence that we can see in her works the passionate struggle for the relevance of painting and sculpture. In 2019, the Leipzig-based artist will complete her master's studies in the class for installation and space with Prof. Joachim Blank at the HGB Leipzig. Before Heckhoff devoted herself to art, the artist, who was born in 1993, completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter. She then studied "Free Art" at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem, Israel. In 2015, she completed her studies in painting at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts. Let's follow Marlet Heckhoff into the matrix of space and moment.
