About the Item
In this dramatic abstract painting by Montreal born Mel Davis, a blur of outdoor images is reflected in a mirror. The palette for this piece is black, gray, a touch of yellow and pale blue. Davis reimagines everyday objects using traditional techniques in a fresh and modern way. One of a series.
“I explore the space between what is familiar and what still can be mysterious. My work questions if we can find new and relevant areas of study in what is traditional.” – Mel Davis
She graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in 1998. A short study trip at the Slade School of Art in London was followed by a move to California where she acquired her MFA at the San Francisco Institute of Art. Davis still lives in the Bay area. Her work has been shown in both solo and group shows in Canada and the U.S.

- Is My Birth and Death The Same Moment?By Martin BensonLocated in New Orleans, LAThrough his artistic practice, Martin Benson is exploring ways to express questions about deeper levels of reality. Inspired by sacred geometry and esoteric symbolism, his paintings embody his own contemplative practices and the experiences within them. Reconciling the tension between spirituality and the hyper-materialist modern world, his pieces act as visual koans for both the artist and the viewer. Benson received his MFA from the University of New Orleans and his BA at the University of Southern California. He has exhibited at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Contemporary Arts Center (LA), the New Orleans Museum of Art, and the Jazz and Heritage...Category
