About the Item
abstract 29/29, Original Contemporary Grayl Abstract Encaustic Painting
29" x 29" x 3" (HxWxD)
Hand-signed by the artist in verso.
A contemporary minimalist encaustic work by artist Michele Renée Ledoux, this square format artwork features a simple color palette of a grayish white broken up by moments of black. The abstract composition features a series of small black dots, almost forming a pattern, but still organically placed. There is a great play of light to dark and tactile texture. The surface also features a natural distress that brings forth the spirit of the work and calls to the artistic process of creation.
Artist Commentary:
Fire + wax are used to create this one-of-a-kind abstract contemporary painting using the ancient technique of encaustic, most known for its vibrant colors. The work has a heavy sculptural aspect and features uneven surfaces, cuts, cracks and chips. The work is neutral in palette, architectural in style and organic in process and texture.

Richard Hirsch Encaustic Painting of Nothing #63, 2020
By Richard A. Hirsch
Located in New York, NY
Contemporary American ceramic artist Richard Hirsch's encaustic Painting of Nothing #63 is made of ceramic raw materials, dry pigment and wax. This piece is part of his ongoing Painting of Nothing Series. Hirsch applies the waxy mix with a brush onto redwood plywood backed structures with two-inch wood strips all around and used various torches to layer, flux, bubble and blend. "Waxy and very tactile, they are probably the work Mark Rothko would have done had he spent most of his life in clay. Hirsch’s paintings have the nuance, subtle texture, and color shifts that become evident in blown-up photographs of his ceramic objects as well as a similar presence." Signed and dated en verso by the artist. This painting ship directly from the artist’s studio in Rochester, NY.

Untitled (Abstract 18) - 16"x20", Minimal Abstract, Grey, White Painting
By Andrea Stajan-Ferkul
Located in Mississauga, Ontario
This contemporary minimal abstract painting puts emphasis on simplifying the composition. Tone on tone greys builds up a subtle texture with a single, thick white brush stroke commanding attention. Layers of neutrals move the eye around, making for an understated yet engaging outcome.
