About the Item
Molly Dilworth "Contagian".
Acrylic on canvas created in 2009.
Measures: 35.5" W X 60.25" H.
Signed on revers "Molly Dilworth/2009".
This striking painting depicts what first appears to be pure abstraction, rendered in tones of walnut, carnelian, and turquoise. Upon closer inspection, however, the viewer understands that this is a beach scene complete with parasols and beach cabanas. According to the artist the work represents a "visual record of attempt to collapse two nodes in time"
Molly Dilworth is a Brooklyn-based artist who views creative practice as a form of research. Since earning her MFA from NYU in 2003, Dilworth has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally. Using data from a specific site as a structure, she gives form to things that invisibly motivate our actions. Her work will be included in "Spontaneous Interventions: Design Actions for the Common Good" in the U.S. Pavilion at the 13th International Venice Architecture Biennale.
This work was featured and illustrated in NYC&G New York Cottages and Gardens, March 2013, "Silver Lining", pp. 61-67 in an interior created by the renowned interior designer Celerie Kemble.

- Munch Scream vs Monalisa SmileBy Alex Guofeng CaoLocated in New York, NYIn a captivating new collection, Alex Guofeng Cao dazzles audiences with his unique twist on instantly recognizable images. Inspired by history and pop culture, Cao manipulates one iconic image to create another in his extraordinary large-scale works. From a distance, the pieces appear to be a singular image but as the viewer approaches closer, you find each work is a masterfully crafted compilation of minute detailed images layered next to one another, creating a mesmerizing and hypnotic optical illusion. Cao meticulously places each smaller image to form a dynamic gradient from dark to light which tricks the eye into seeing one image. This expertise in contrast is exemplified in all of his works, from striking black and white pieces to stunning explorations in high-definition color. He cleverly mirrors this visual contrast in his subject matter by subverting the main image and creating a dialogue between the macrocosm and microcosm. Take the piece, Ali vs Armstrong; here we see the iconic image of Muhammed Ali’s victory composed of thousands of tiny portraits...Category
