About the Item
Oil on cast acrylic sheet. One of six new works, MM Ciciovan continues her study in using new media—in this case, cast acrylic as her canvas. The colors achieve a deep saturation as she manipulates the paints using her practiced technique of using palette knives to work the oils. "L'Age de bronze" is an homage to Rodin and was most recently on view at Salomon Arts Gallery in Tribeca in 2018.
One of Canada's foremost abstract artists, MM Ciciovan experiments with new mediums such as plexiglass, to push her vision and challenge our perspective of contemporary abstract painting. The painter's use of layers of vivid color skillfully applied with a palette knife and brush allow for great complexity in a loose, yet controlled style.
