Duality Series 1, Original Abstract Painting, 2021

2021

About the Item

Artist Commentary: This Series began after six months of quarantine due to the Covid 19 pandemic. I often check-in with my (out of state) parents; they are both retired and generally have kept themselves busy during this difficult time. I asked what they are doing for fun....My Dad said a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle was his vice of the week. I start thinking of puzzle pieces-- how they are connected and how each piece has a purpose to complete a picture. What is my purpose during this pandemic? To make art that points to something beyond ourselves, beyond isolation, beyond pandemics. Active Promotional Offer: Get additional discounts if you purchase multiple paintings by Oi Fortin. Please contact us for more information. About the artist: Oi Fortin is an award-winning monotype printmaker, working in New Haven, CT, USA. Her contemporary abstract expressionist prints are notable for a vivid palette and spritely motifs, yet they can also evoke a calm and meditative state, summoning the mystical. Oi’s compositions are influenced by nature, relationships and the interior life. Reviewers describe Oi’s work as “emotionally charged, allegorical”, and “vibrant”. Her works have been exhibited world-wide and are in the permanent collections of museums and galleries in the US and Asia, and in private collections in those regions and in Europe. A monotype print is made by painting or drawing with ink on a plate. Special printmaking paper is placed on the plate and the two are passed through a printing press, transferring the image onto the paper. The print produced is one-of-a-kind (monotype). Monotype print-making has an element of serendipity and chance that occurs when ink and paper meet press. Oi enjoys the uncertainly and risk involved in pulling her prints, and the sense of discovery when she peels the paper off of the plate. She appreciates your interest in her prints and hopes that you experience the same joy in viewing them that she has in creating them. Keywords: colorful, Modern, abstract, expressive, playful, serene, calm, fun, happy, bold

Artist commentary: I like to transport my mind to a calming place, inspired by memories, and complex organic elements found in nature. Playing with colors and movement, creating new compositions -- my best work comes when there is freedom to create without any strict plan. With intuition and spontaneity taking over, the result is often a surprise. To me, everything flows, and there is always a sense of balance and harmony that can emerge out of disorder. I love the ambiguous and mysterious nature of abstraction. Through self-discovery and experimentation, I am allowing dynamic energy that manifests through the joy of creating. The result is loose interpretations of anything that exists between the mind and reality, therefore each painting is unique and sometimes inexplicable. About the Artist: Ethereal and calming, Novi Lim's painting transports its audience to a land that is both dreamlike yet familiar. Lim Finds inspiration in the natural world, and seeks to capture their essence through an organic and sensory creative process. In the artist's own words: "Often, imagining a mythical flower that blooms and lit up in the nighttime or seeing something as simple as the calming gradient of the colorful sky at sundown, or the surface of water that glimmers which makes me wonder about the mystery of the deepest oceans -- piqued my creative process and subliminal stimuli." Guided by instinctive feeling, Lim lets the movements of her paintbrush flow as she experiments with atmospheric lighting, transparency, and color. The result is an ambiguous landscape that treads between the subconscious and waking world. Nina is an artist, ceramist and colorist with 20 years of professional experience and a lifetime of art appreciation. Originally from Virginia and having traveled and lived extensively worldwide she now resides as a full-time artist and ceramist in Los Angeles. With a degree in psychology and training in ceramics, painting was a natural transition and expansion to her repertoire from an early age. With color and form as her guide, her artwork flows from spontaneous and spiritual inspiration. Influenced by her travels with the play of color and light, her paintings reflect nature, spirit and a place of tranquility. There’s a touch of magic, secrets and a touch of the unknown in every painting, when painting ”time stops and almost an altered state of consciousness overtakes as the painting evolves”. Nina’s artwork has been shown in California, New York, Berlin, Montreal, Texas and Tokyo Japan. Santa Ana...
