Underwater Painting by Olga Nikitina The Thistlegorm, wreck of The Second World War in The Red Sea. Underwater painting is a new very unique fast growing direction in contemporary art. Artwork was created underwater during scuba diving. Wreck is laying at the depth of 30-18 meters, very often there is bed visibility and strong current. Lots of photos and videos have been taken about this wreck. But only one painting in the world was created underwater, directly on the ship wreck at the depth of 18 meters. Thistlegorm was a British cargo steamship that was built in North East England in 1940 and sunk by German bomber aircraft in the Red Sea in 1941. Nowadays wreck is a unique underwater museum with lots of military ammunition: Bedford trucks, Universal Carrier armored vehicles, Norton 16H and BSA motorcycles, Bren guns, cases of ammunition like reminder that we must live in peace. In 2007 The Times named Thistlegorm as one of the top ten wreck diving sites in the world. The genre is intuitive painting, based on feelings and emotions in the particular moment underwater. She believes when she teach people scuba diving she opens the door to new planet, to new reality in another dimension. In her art she reflects these emotions what people experience being underwater. Who have tried scuba diving once become a different person, it is not possible to forget that experience. 2006 - Degree of Interior Design from Ulyanovsk State University 1995-2000 - School of Fine Arts, Ulyanovsk, Russia Was published in art magazines and journals, participated in group and solo exhibitions. Artworks are in private collections all over the world: USA, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Netherlands, France, Spain, South Africa, Egypt, Australia, Japan, Singapore. The main focus of my painting is underwater world. I draw my inspiration during scuba diving. Underwater I have learnt not only about the many life-forms, but the shapes and colors of everything in that realm continue to blow my mind. I feel like I am in another dimension. Scuba Divers witness the changes happening in the ocean – and can be among the first to raise the awareness of others to these growing problems. Nowadays most scuba divers have underwater cameras, to record the treasures and tragedies happening underwater – in this case evidence of the destruction of marine life. Art too, is a very effective tool and medium to communicate these messages. My art is my language. I would like to make people more human, more spiritual, to find their soul, love and kindness through the reunion with nature. So I am very happy to have opportunity to attract people by my art to the nature, in diver to find an art person and show a new reality – underwater world to art person. I believe that with my paintings more people will fall in love with the world of the sea, and become involved in the protection of our oceans for future generations to enjoy and wonder at. In my underwater art I use palette knife, it gives an incredible deep texture and makes the artwork alive. Impasto painting is one of the palette knife art style. I work in artstyles such as impressionism, abstract, expressionism, fine art, conceptual and sometimes realism. I work with acrylic painting, mixedmedia, texture paste however oil painting is my favorite.
