Senza Titolo, 1977, Tecnica mista su Cartone, Plexiglas, Pittura Analitica

1977

About the Item

This work adheres to the canons of most of Masi's paintings, namely the use of cardboard as it moves the artist away from the confines of two-dimensionality, providing an ideal basis for illustrating tonal and geometric variations. The format of this work is his preferred format. Masi has a predilection for used cardboard, which he prefers for pre-existing signs, traces of the city that become part of the finished work. From a series of packing cartons dating back to the 1980s. Work signed, titled and dated on verso. Work accompanied by certificate of authenticity on photograph issued by the artist. Mostre: La Soglia Della Pittura, Glenda Cinquegrana Art Consulting, Milan, from June 21 to September 21, 2023. Paolo Masi, Cartoni, Glenda Cinquegrana Art Consulting, Milan, from March 25 to May 21, 2022. Bibliography: Paolo Masi, Cartoni, with text by Glenda Cinquegrana and Denis Isaia, Glenda Art Consulting, Milan, May 2022. Pag. 42 Paolo Masi was born in 1933 in Florence, where he currently lives and works. After his first informal experiences in the 1950s, he became interested in the transformation of materials. The experimentation of those years led him to join the research group Centro F/ UNO, together with Baldi, Lecci and Maurizio Nannucci. In the 1970s he approached Analytical Painting, developing compositional seriality. In 1974 his analytical focus shifted to Textures (sewn canvases) and especially to container cardboard, which he treated with various pictorial techniques. Together with Maurizio Nannucci he founded Zona, a nonprofit collective space, which since 2000 has taken the name Base, a collective dedicated to the most advanced research on contemporaneity. His many exhibitions include participation in the 1978 Venice Biennale and the 1986 Rome Quadrennial. His works are in the collections of major Italian and foreign museums.
