Patrick Duffy
The Distance Between, Abstract Painting

2023

About the Item

Artist Comments
Artist Patrick Duffy displays his signature linear marks in this composition. He paints solid blocks of black and gray, mimicking the silhouette of towering mountains. Amidst the bold forms, a striking streak of white emerges, creating a mesmerizing interplay of contrast and depth. In his work, Patrick creates a dialogue between the imagination and removing limiting barriers of distance and various dimensions. "Sometimes, it's easy to forget that there is a vast and obscure world out there," says Patrick. "To grasp at anything too large for its capacity gives the sensation of being small, and that can have a big effect on the self."

About the Artist
Artist Patrick Duffy creates multi-scaled abstract compositions that seek to realize patterns through process, form, and color. Growing up in the coastal town of Blue Hill, Maine, he started creating art very early. He explores time, space, theoretical, and science fiction themes. "I would describe my works as translated visions of paradoxes," says Patrick. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute in 2006. His works have been part of many New York, New England, and Houston, TX shows. Publications include The New York Times, "Things to See in the Hudson Valley" for the exhibition "Intricate Realities" at the Catskill Arts Society in 2016, as well as "Creating in Color" for Trouvé Magazine Volume 3 in 2015. Since 2019, Patrick has resided in Austin, Texas. He has worked with artists Takashi Murakami (Kai Kai Ki Ki Studios), Robert Longo, and Richard Serra. He is an art handler and shipping coordinator for galleries, museums, and fine art companies nationwide.
