Paula Cahill
The Right Missing: contemporary abstract painting, red w/ blue & yellow circles

2014

About the Item

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Paula Cahill pursued an education in the arts after relocating to the Philadelphia area. She studied the figure for many years before transitioning to complex, abstract paintings. Her paintings are exhibited in the U.S. and have garnered regional awards including "Best of Show" in the "Celebration of Life" exhibit at the Perelman Center, and an Honorable Mention at Goggleworks. "The Right Missing" received an Honorable Mention from the Abington Art Center. "After painting the figure from observation with great joy, dedication, and curiosity for over a decade, my gradual transition to abstract painting sparked a long period of experimentation. Separated from the physical world in front of me, I was left to rely on my imagination which was exciting, frustrating, and terrifying all at once. I was eager to explore color, form, and the new vocabulary that arose from within despite the feeling that I was clueless. Out of this chaos, I created a new body of work that I cheekily titled, “The Color of Fun.” Standing in front of a blank canvas was both thrilling and fearful as I began applying thin washes of paint to develop a composition that I revised many times while I struggled to respond to each mark and layer of the painting. Eventually, the process would reveal a private, buried meaning, usually a forgotten event from the past or a wish that would shape and guide the final resolution of the painting. This deeply personal approach to the work is expressed in fields of color, idiosyncratic mark making, and impetuous acts of painting. Built on joy, tragedy, struggle, and the line that blurs our public and private selves, “The Color of Fun” arose from life as I didn’t know it." - Paula Cahill Cahill's paintings are held in private, public, and corporate collections including Temple University, Capital One, and PNC Bank Corporation. Her studio is located in Philadelphia, PA. Excellent delivery rates in the greater Philadelphia area.

Comprised of contrasting patterns of color, texture, and form, which fill the canvas from edge to edge, his restless abstractions elude a fleeting encounter. Rather, they absorb our attention with rhythmic structures and visual anomalies designed to stimulate and perplex our senses. McAleer's kaleidoscopic abstractions have their basis in the humble Modernist's grid,......" - Joe Houston, Author "Optic Nerve, Perceptual Art of the 1960s"; Curator, Hallmark Art Collection. McAleer is an artist and lifelong educator based in NJ.
