About

The work of Rubens Ghenov lies at the intersection of fact and fiction. For the past two years Ghenov has been working solely with the unpublished poet Angelico Morandá (b. Spain, 1940 – d. Portugal, 2006), a fictive construct of the artist. Ghenov uses painting and storytelling to procure a form of poetry where the interests collide, and the familiar assimilates and decomposes into the abstract.

In this blue, green purple, red, and black painting on panel, Ghenov leaves large portions of wood exposed, or lets the wood grain show through his paint layers. Using acrylic paint and taping certain sections, Ghenov is able to achieve a contrast between rigid line and form, as well as more fluid swirls of color.
