About the Item
Memory Landscape- Magic Bells is her latest series, "The Weaver," Shizico explores forms, layers, and time onto canvases.
In this outstanding painting, Shizico applied layers of materials ( Gold leaf, Oil, Acrylic and Gesso ) to create lyrical narratives, capturing the play of light across different moments of the day over few days, in doing so, Yi capturing light's nuances throughout the days in one canvas, condensed 100s of hours into one moment.
With her unique, confident and expressive brushstrokes, Yi captured the essence of her studio flowers with an enchanting charm that goes beyond mere botanical representation.
Magic Bell blooms from late winter through spring, alongside the magnificent Magnolias, they grace the chilly months with flora splendour. In her studio, Shizico Yi found solace amidst these indoor houseplants, where she brought them to life on canvas during the winter seasons.
This series invites viewers to go on a journey through time, as Yi explores how light shapes our experiences, growth, seasons, and aging. Through each painting, she weaves a tapestry of emotions, resonating with her profound passion for art and life.
Since 2015, alongside her gardening, Shizico Yi devotes her time from spring to autumn to painting en plein air, capturing the essence of her garden and cities to honour cherished memories. During the winter season, she shifts her artistic practice indoors to her studio, sharing the space of an indoor jungle of greenery with her cat, who, like her, craves nature during the cold weather. Over the decades, her love for nature has become intertwined with her paintings, capturing memories, time, and beauty in her art, transcending into a timeless realm.

Dr. Shizico Yi, the UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories . With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.
