Steven H. Rehfeld's "Geometrics" is a striking 36" x 48" mixed media piece that masterfully blends the boundaries between structure and spontaneity. At first glance, the canvas is segmented into a series of geometric forms, reminiscent of fragmented tiles or shards, each intricately patterned with soft pastel tones. A muted palette of creamy whites, subtle blues, and gentle pinks graces the artwork, punctuated occasionally by deeper hues of indigo and reddish undertones. The thick, textured application of the paint, apparent in every brush stroke, adds depth and character, emphasizing the tactile nature of the work. Steven is also part of the 'Outsiders' school of art, originating in France in the 19th century. Also known as the Naïve movement, and was comprised of people with no art training at all, who suddenly started to paint. Many of them are from very challenging backgrounds. All they had was talent that had never before been tapped. In no time this movement became a significant art phenomenon and spread all over the world.
His work, however, has branched out past the movement and his use of earth elements renders a basic and raw interpretation of his message.
