Steven H. Rehfeld
'Red Line' by Steven H. Rehfeld - Bright Textured Mixed Media Painting on Canvas

2022

About the Item

"Red Line" by Steven H. Rehfeld is a vibrant 48" x 36" mixed-media masterpiece that pulses with the raw energy and complexity of abstract expressionism. This artwork is a riot of texture and color, with bold reds slicing through a chaotic tapestry of newsprint, scribbles, and splashes, suggesting a narrative caught in a storm of emotion and movement. Rehfeld’s piece invites contemplation of the red lines we draw in our lives—boundaries, breaking points, or connections. It can be positioned either horizontally or vertically, allowing for varied interpretations of its narrative. The overall feel is one of dynamism and layered meaning, a visual representation of the cacophony of the modern world, and the personal and societal boundaries that define it. About the Artist: Steven H. Rehfeld is now one of the top emerging artists in the United States. His works are groundbreaking, bold, and imbued with unflinching disregard for painting conventions. Many works are in collections and museums in the U.S. Steven is also part of the 'Outsiders' school of art, originating in France in the 19th century. Also known as the Naïve movement, it was comprised of people with no art training at all, who suddenly started to paint. Many of them are from very challenging backgrounds. All they had was talent that had never before been tapped. In no time this movement became a significant art phenomenon and spread all over the world. His work, however, has branched out past the movement and his use of earth elements renders a basic and raw interpretation of his message. Original, 1-of-1. Available at the American Art Gallery, Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Keywords: Steven H. Rehfeld, abstract, mixed media, textures, red, newsprint, scribbles, splashes, varied interpretations, red line, boundaries

Colourful, French mixed media abstract, acrylic, newsprint and ink from the 1980s. The canvas is signed and dated bottom right but we have not yet managed to decipher it. A colourful and engaging painting crossing over styles. The colourfield elements are reminiscent of the work of Mark Rothko, three defined bands of colour in orange/pink tones vertically dissecting the painting with one horizontal band across the top, and yet the elongated depiction of the female figures within the bands remind us of Gustav Klimt and his paintings of Adele. The background of the painting has been worked broadly with a palette knife whilst the detail has been added quickly and deftly with ink or finer brushstrokes. With the addition of newsprint (in French) the artist may...
