Unique artwork Tanc is one of the most promising artists of his generation. Born in Paris on May 11, 1979, lives and works in Paris. Tanc's work bears the clear influence of abstract expressionist artists (the artist talks about Rothko, Pollock, Reinhardt, Hartung and especially Franz Kline are sources of inspiration in his practice). Tanc's practice reached a turning point: ever since his New York show at Catherine Ahnell Gallery, the artist left aside the colorful explosion that used to mark his paintings and is now more interested in nuances of black, lineary variations and automatic writing. This new direction evokes the work of Henri Michaux. Tanc is also a composer and certain notions from the electronic and experimental music inhabit his work, without any doubt; the obsession for rhythm and pulsation tend to produce an intense, fascinating painting with a unique vibrating dimension. His heartbeat activates his arm like a metronome, he doesn't try to control this flow but just to understand the composition that he makes appear in balance between his conscious and unconscious. He composes his music and his paintings in a spontaneous way. He is dense or light, rigorous or unstructured, Tanc does not play, he lives his art. Born in 1979 in Paris, France. Lives and works in Paris. Tanc has exhibit his work in various places across the world. His work is characterized by the uniqueness of his style, which is better understood acknowledging that Tanc grew up as a graffiti artist. He sees street art as ephemeral, and that the creative process matters more than the result itself. To him, being an artist means embracing a certain way of life: to be fully committed, and show absolute integrity. At the turn of the century, he mainly focused on studio work. His exploration of the possibilities of a line allowed him to immediately stand out from the usual graffiti artists. His work strives towards synthesis of his name, of tags, of individuals, of music… of life. His work does not seek perfection, but spontaneity. The artist’s state defines the work’s density and its precision. His heart beat activates his arm like a metronome: the artist is not trying to control this flow, but rather understand the composition that suddenly appears on the canvas, perfect balance between consciousness and unconsciousness.
