Theresa Girard
Rhythm by Theresa Girard, Vertical Abstract Framed Painting, Orange, Blue, White

2023

About the Item

This framed abstract acrylic on canvas painting entitled 'Rhythm' was created by American artist Theresa Girard in 2023. Set inside a simple white frame, the painting features areas of solid colors made of white, blue, green and orange accented with energetic strokes. The painting is signed in the back. Without its frame, this painting measures 40 inches x 16 inches. It is also able to hang vertically and horizontally, as the artist has wired it both ways. A paintbrush warrior of sorts, Theresa begins her paintings by energizing the surface to create a fresh approach. Color, mark making, and brush strokes with various tools are used as she creates an awareness of texture and good composition. In her next process of simplification, she moves between adding and removing layers of paint until she is satisfied.

  • Tango Pants #7 by Mel Rea, Acrylic and Pastel on Torn Canvas
    By Mel Rea
    Located in Atlanta, GA
Mel began her artistic career as a devoted clay sculptor. However, as time passed, she began to long for a change. Several years back she explored new options while exhausting more mediums than she can recall. It was during this period that she discovered a small batch of beeswax left behind from the last of her grandfather's beehives. Mel's grandfather, Sam Sekerak, spent his childhood in Russia where he was inspired to build an apiary farm. His dream came true as an adult in the States where he built and farmed his own set of beehives. As a young girl, Mel felt such a sense of peace walking amongst her grandfather's hives. She developed a very deep connection, respect, and appreciation for Mother Nature. Like many artists, she is a constant source of inspiration. This connection along with that old batch of beeswax is what led my transition away from clay and into encaustic painting (painting with molten beeswax). She is grateful for the intense labors of the beautiful honeybee, and consider beeswax a unique gift to be treasured. As a strange twist of fate, her name is translated in the Greek word for "honeybee". She loves traditional Japanese pottery and contemporary Japanese painting. The soft satin finish of the beeswax along with the ability to incise elegant clean lines, was just what she'd longed to achieve. While many Japanese works of art...

The present work of art titled "Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters)" is part of a series of paintings that the artist composed in the 1980s and 1990s inspired by the observation of the urban reality of those years. The artist take the cue from his walks in Florence, both in the center and in the suburbs, and by the observation of billboards and posters scattered throughout the city. The mass of information, colors, messages and words were carried on the canvas with acrylic colors, ideally reconstructing the tears and overlaps of all the information and advertising contained on these huge sheets of paper that invade our cities. The geometric lines are overlaid with jagged lines, overlaps and color dripping and also the choice in the color palette, with different shades of white, gray, rose, orange red and blue helps in rendering the result of the tears and ripped paper. The result is a beautiful multicolored modern abstract canvas, both aesthetically and ethically, with many rich layers of color, texture and expression in which the artist leaves his own message. The painting is housed in a simple modern white lacquer wood frame. Andrea Spinelli...
