Gaza, a Provocative and haunting figurative work painted with warm golden and burgundy red hues. ‘Gaza’ takes its inspiration from images of women in turmoil that the artist has seen across the news in both TV and print — women, who have lost sons, husbands, fathers and friends. He painted the three women veiled in darkness, with a purposeful light around them to signify hope.
Roy Borrone, who is associated with the California Bay Area figurative movement. Rich in color, with the haunting elegance that is always associated with his work, ‘Gaza’ is painted with oil and alkyd and wax varnish on linen that has been stretched over a wood panel — 60 x 56 inches. A sophisticated painting that bridges abstraction, figuration and representation. The California Bay Area artist paints slowly and layered, taking months and sometimes even years to complete a single work of art. The paint extends beyond the surface to the edge of the canvas, so framing in not required. Interesting from every angle.
