Tra' Slaughter
“My First Jordans” Contemporary Still Life Shoe / Sneaker Painting with Text

2022

About the Item

Contemporary show painting by Houston, TX artist Tra' Slaughter. The painting features a painting of an Air Jordan sneaker with the phrase "that boy don't need no got' damn hundred dollar tenny shoes!" underneath. This piece was included in Tra's solo show "Souls of Soles" at Reeves Art and Design Houston. Signed, titled, and dated by the artist at the back. Unframed but framing options are available. Artist Statement: Over the course of his life, Tra` has come to the realization that his art is not a private conversation; rather art is a communal experience. As a result, he aims to create powerful and persuasive art with a social function, that challenges our understanding of the world in which we live and how we operate within it. As an artist, he is a reflector, translator, and mediator of societal issues, including racial and gender inequality, civil rights, globalization, environmental crisis, greed, and cultural and social identity. Tra` creates works that act as windows, providing insight and focus on complex subjects, while offering my unique interpretations, and raising difficult questions. His most recent body of work can be described as an Expressive Assemblage consisting of found materials with symbolic potency reborn to tell their stories in mixed media paintings and assemblage sculptures. Every piece he creates has numerous interwoven layers of stories and experiences that can only be seen by returning and looking even deeper. When the viewer seeks to understand the story behind a piece of his work, they begin to remember a forgotten history and their part in that history. His hope and ultimate goal as an artist is to inspire viewers to open their eyes to what is really happening in our world, so they in turn can find the valor and compassion to be a voice for the oppressed, discarded, and forgotten. Artist Biography: Tra` aims to create powerful and persuasive art with a social function, that challenges our understanding of the world in which we live and how we operate within it. • Rebels - Original Graffiti Inspired Painting on Canvas
    By Amber Goldhammer
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Los Angeles artist Amber Goldhammer paints dramatic abstract compositions in acrylic on canvas featuring energetic brushstrokes. Goldhammer uses her contemporary paintings to express emotions akin to silent poetry while drawing inspiration for her palette from the layered world around her. Her artworks include layered textures and playful details along the surfaces. She repeatedly uses words that come together to form a harmonious composition. This original graffiti-inspired painting measures 18 inches square. The sides are painted grey and it does not require framing. It is wired and ready to hang. This painting is signed and titled by the artist on the back. Convenient local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and global shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Amber Goldhammer is best known for creating vibrant abstract paintings with a street art edge. She originally started painting with pigments, powders, and waxes and went on to experiment with different mediums and processes to keep evolving her artworks. As love and joy are paramount emotions in life, Goldhammer hopes her series incorporating the “I Love You” message expands to reach a wide audience. Connecting people through public art is one way she believes her street murals can impact lives, as it is impossible to view her work and not feel a sense of joy and love. Painting a convergence of color and emotion, she builds and layers bold colors organically, allowing the process to determine the outcome. There is no analyzing, conceptualizing, or judging that takes place. It all happens in the moment, as a union between her, the canvas, and the paint. Her original art can be seen on canvases, interior wall surfaces, outdoor facilities, furnishing elements, clothing, and accessories. Amber Goldhammer frequently draws inspiration for her palette from nature and the colors of the ocean, saying, “I get to take in the essence of the ocean every day, which fuels my creativity and brings me peace.” She draws a fascinating parallel between her highly coveted paintings and the diverse tapestry of the world around us. Just as a field of flowers may initially appear uniform, upon closer inspection, the intricate beauty of each unique blossom becomes evident. Her artwork mirrors this intricate beauty and complexity, offering a captivating journey for art enthusiasts in search of original, one-of-a-kind pieces that reflect the rich diversity of our surroundings. A worldwide collected young artist with ongoing concurrent exhibitions in galleries throughout the United States and Switzerland, Goldhammer's artworks have also been exhibited at major international art fairs. Her original paintings have been showcased in print and online publications and on such TV series as “Million Dollar Listing,” “Being Mary Jane,” “The Catch” as well as both multi-Emmy® nominated series, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”, and “Scandal.” Goldhammer’s art is also featured on Netflix’s original series, “G.L.O.W.” by “Weeds” creator, Jenji Kohan.
