Abstract Geometric Composition with Handmade Paper, Fibers and Acrylic on Canvas (Blue) Whimsical abstract composition by an unknown artist (20th Century). Blue acrylic paint makes up the background of this composition. Atop that, there is a layer of natural fibers, with a similar texture to straw. The fibers are held in place by washi paper that has circles of various sizes cut out from it. No frame, but the edges are wrapped for a frame-less display. Canvas size: 20"H x 16"W

  • "Hey Did We Scratch?" - Abstract Expressionist Composition
    Located in Soquel, CA
    "Hey Did We Scratch?" - Abstract Expressionist Composition Detailed and layered composition by Leroy W. Parker (American, 1941). This piece is divided into a checkerboard, with a variety of overlaid patterns and textures. There are several types of handmade paper applied to the canvas, likely made by Parker himself. Signed "Leroy Wheeler Parker" in the lower right corner. "#1" and an up arrow are written on verso. Tag on verso with artist info, title, media, and date. No frame, but the edges of the canvas are painted for a frame-less display. Leroy W. Parker (American, b. 1941) is an artist from Oklahoma who now resides in Lafayette, California. Parker earned his BFA in painting from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1966, and then went on to earn his MFA in 1968 from the same institution. He is a Professor of Art at San Jose State University. He has taught classes in fine arts, life drawing, ceramics, paper making (which he instituted in 1984), and sculpture since 1969. Parker has also served on the State Art Commission for sculptural grants. One of his pieces is held in the San Jose Museum of Art.     Bold and balanced abstract composition by Russell Green (American, 1910-1986). Completed in Green's characteristic style, this piece has a balanced interplay of shapes and colors. Blocks of black, reds, blues, and greys create a strong background. Over the top, lines of black, red, and white outline and divide the background shapes. Signed "Russell Green" in the lower left corner. Presented in a wood frame with a double mat. Frame size: 23.5"H x 30"W Image size: 14.5"H x 22.5"W Russell Davis Green (American, 1910-1986) painter, printmaker and teacher, was born in Traer, Iowa on December 29, 1910. He studied art at Iowa State College and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Green worked in the Illinois and New York Works Progress Administration-Federal Art Projects in the 1930s and two of his woodcuts are listed in the General Services Administration’s book WPA Artwork in Non-Federal Repositories. Green was also a painter and lithographer, and he was included in the Exhibition by Artists of Chicago and Vicinity at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1934. His work was also included in exhibitions at the Philadelphia Art Alliance; Museum of Modern Art and the Grand Central Galleries in New York; and the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs, 1935. Green began his long teaching career at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri in 1940 and eventually headed the art department. He is represented in the collections of the Baltimore Museum of Art; Art Institute of Chicago; Metropolitan Museum of Art; Newark Museum; and the St. Louis Art Museum. [After graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1933, he returned to Iowa to begin teaching. In 1935, approximately the time he completed Thanksgiving, he served as a private art teacher in Sioux City. He also had a one-person exhibition of his work at the Sioux City School of Music, Dramatic Art and Dancing, which was located in the Commerce Building.
