Black and Red Oil Abstract on Canvas by Carol Pinsky

1960s

About the Item

This black and red abstract oil painting features red and orange splashes of paint overlaid on a black background. The vivacity and life force evoked by the artwork makes it a captivating addition to any collection. The chaotic spread of color and the sense of vivacity and life force are intentionally designed to elicit a visceral response from the viewer, drawing them into the artwork and connecting them with the emotions it evokes. This painting creates a sense of movement and energy and prioritizes emotion over analytical understanding. ---- Carol Pinsky received her training at the Arts Students League in NYC in 1941 under the well known artist Bridgeman. She was in the same class as Leroy Neiman. In 1969 she received her BFA in Fine Arts and then went on to study photography, sculpture, water color and painting under the important American colorist, Walter Quirt. Her painting is greatly influenced by De Kooning, Pollack and the California School of Painters such as David Park and Richard Diebenkorn with the result that her paintings are mostly figures and gestures with an extremely strong linear quality and dynamic masses. Many are black and white with stark effect while others use color in bold, free, yet subtle ways. Carol Pinsky studied photography under the world renowned urban photographer, Berenice Abbott and for many years had her own studio. She even found time to study writing with the Pullitzer Prize winning playwright, Thather Hughes. In 1961 Pinsky opened up an art gallery known as The Collectors Gallery. She continued to paint and moved to Los Angeles in 1970. Pinsky has had many one woman shows plus group shows throughout the USA. Many of her paintings are in private collections across the country.

Their works raise questions about the existential struggle faced when attempting to make sense of tragedy on a global scale. Since the 1970s, Doug Edge...
