About the Item

Collaboration between Yeo Shih-Yun & Alba Escayo Ink, acrylic paint and pencil on paper 65cm by 50cm Yeo Shih Yun (1976, Singapore) is a highly regarded Singaporean artist whose innovative approach to ink painting has garnered international acclaim. After obtaining a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore in 1998, Yeo pursued a Diploma in Communication Design at LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts in 2001, followed by the Post Baccalaureate Programme in painting at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2002. Yeo's experimental fusion of traditional ink painting with contemporary mediums such as new media and performance art has resulted in dynamic and unpredictable works that challenge conventional notions of the medium. Alba Escayo was born in Asturias, Spain, in 1981. Following several years at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, Italy, Escayo received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Complutensian University in Madrid, and her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of Belgrade, Serbia. Currently based in Madrid, Escayo is a critically acclaimed contemporary artist whose expansive, compelling paintings and interdisciplinary works have garnered her international recognition, and are extensively represented in galleries, and several permanent public and private collections as well to a frequent exhibitions the world over, with most recent solo and group exhibitions in Madrid, Singapore and the Balkans. Escayo maintains a highly engaged and collaborative artist practice, which includes numerous invitational residencies and international projects. Vibrant, masterful, and implicitly expressionistic, Alba Escayo’s paintings converge artistic ingenuity with new media principles in practice which is entirely contemporary. With reference to natural elements, oceanic-landscapes, and travel iconography, Escayo’s painterly collage work is a reinterpretation of the artist’s international travels— acting as both a signifier for contemporary re-engagement, and preservation of, the tradition of exploration place, afar and familiar
