Yvonne Coomber is a contemporary landscape artist who specializes in creating abstract meadow paintings. Working from her studio in Devon, she is both a romantic and a believer, approaching her art with intuition and instinct, allowing her creations to evolve and unravel organically. Her artistic practice requires courage and an open heart, always involving an element of risk. It’s a perpetual quest for truth and intensity, with the canvas serving as a vessel for these profound emotions. Yvonne’s art sings of tumbling hedgerows, tangled meadowlands, and open moorlands, aiming to transport viewers to a place filled with effervescent joy and the birth of dreams. Yvonne employs a mixture of the highest quality oil paints, inks, glosses, glazes, fine glitters, and gold leaf, applying them in multiple layers. This alchemy of techniques results in kaleidoscopic compositions of rich pigments that prismatically capture the radiance of nature. She begins with gentle veils of colour, gradually building up the washes. Later, bolder marks are added in an energetic dance around the canvas, a stage filled with raw emotion where she pours her heart and soul into the image. The final layer of the painting demands focus and complete presence. My rainbow drenched paintings sing of wild tumbling hedgerows, tangled meadow lands, open moorlands and magical forests. They whisper of love. My intention is to transport the viewer to an effervescent place of happiness that is literally saturated in joy. The materials I use are extremely important. A mixture of oils, inks, glosses, glazes, fine glitter and gold leaf are applied in a multitude of layers. Washes are built up to form a work that is infused with colour. Paintbrushes, sponges, rags, palette knives and fingers are all used to create the finished piece. The result is a kaleidoscopic jewel like composition of rich pigments that prismatically opens up to reveal the radiance and beauty of nature.
