About the Item
"We have to cross this bridge together" by Alexandra Rozenman is a painterly and playful oil painting on linen 60 x 64 x 2.5 inches. This vast abstracted landscape reminds us of how many beautiful places there are on this planet. It is divided into two sections, but has no horizon line; we just feel it because of light, color, and texture. It is from Rozenman's series of 2010 called "Landscapes without Horizons." We think about a landscape right away because of the color palette, tree trunks and a staircase that invites us in.
The beautiful grey color that reflects blues, greens, blacks, and purple walks us in helping us hear the river moving. Two animals in blues and greens, as if they just came from the Kandinsky painting, look at us sideways. The non-distinctive shape of a staircase, a chair, and a few oval windows help us to walk along them to experience love, commitment, and understanding that two creatures need between each other to overcome any obstacles in life or dream together. This painting is oil on linen, initialed on the front and signed, titled and dated on the reverse. Thick 2.5 inches stretcher is painted with grays on the sides.
Alexandra Rozenman immigrated to America from the Soviet Union in 1989. Russian, European and American myths of national destiny and private identity take on a utopian dimension as she absorbs and expresses the psychology of otherness as fundamental aspects of her own identity. She wants her art to be like a well-worn military wool blanket that gives you warmth, love, and history. The artist states. Whatever degree of abstraction defines my thinking and visual self-identification it has all to do with the search for my own image in a great existential sea of sweeping change. Rozenman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.

"Bayou in Blue & Gold" Landscape
By Max Flandorfer

"Bayou in Blue & Gold" by Max Flandorfer (American, b. 1962). Presented in a giltwood frame. Signed "Max Flandorfer" lower left. Titled "Bayou in Blue & Gold," dated "2015" and signed on verso. Image: 12"H x 16"W.
Primarily a plein air painter, Max is an avid outdoorsman and is always seeking to capture the spiritual and humble quality of nature. His work evokes a restful, contemplative stillness that he seeks, both in life and his art. Growing up in Miami, he spent most weekends and summers outdoors in the Everglades, or on the water soaking up the rich color, and beauty of the tropical landscape. Flandorfer lived in California for over 20 years, and currently resides in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Mostly self-taught, Max was forever drawing and sketching as a kid, but the beautiful landscape, and rich artistic heritage of the Monterey peninsula's artist colony was the deciding influence on his later works. An illustration instructor, Jane Miller of Monterey Peninsula College encouraged him to study early California greats such as Granville Redmond...
