About the Item

The Dismounted Hunter, Sir William Rowley, circa 1800 attributed to DEAN WOLSTENHOLME (1757-1837) Large circa 1800 English Hunting scene of a dismounted huntsman, horse and terrier, oil on canvas attributed Dean Wolstenholme. Excellent quality and condition for its age. A young country gentleman in hunting attire returning home leads his horse across the small bridge of a woodland stream. The work is believed to represent Sir William Rowley, founder of the Essex Hunt. Presented in a superb antique gilt frame handmade for the painting. Artists plaque to frame. Unsigned Wolstenholme specialised in sporting art and was a frequent exhibitor at the Royal Academy between 1795-1824. A large number of his work are private and public collections including the Worcester museum. Measurements: 41" x 33.5" framed approx
