About the Item

Ewoud de Groot lives and works in Egmond aan Zee, a coastal village in the north of the Netherlands. Born in 1969 in Alkmarr, he attended the Minerva Academy of Art, and received a degree in illustration and painting. After illustrating nature books for a period, he began painting full-time. De Groot spends a significant amount of time exploring the Waddensea, an internationally known wetland that is actually a chain of islands, mudflats, and sandbanks, starting in the Netherlands and ending in the south of Denmark. Thus, his subjects are often seabirds and waders. His work has been featured in many exhibitions in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. De Groot's work hangs in both private and corporate collections across Europe, Scandinavia and America. Recently he became a member of the 'Pulchri Studio' - the artist society of The Hague and the most prestigious in Holland. In September he had the honor of being selected for the 'Birds in Art Exhibition' at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin, USA. He also is a member of several art organizations, including the Society of Animal Artists.

Tricks - Original Oil Painting, Anthropomorphic Scene with Cat and Seagull
By Wendy Vaughan
Located in Chicago, IL
In this fantastical painting animals reign supreme. An enrobed cat observes/directs as a seagull deftly flies through a suspended hoop. Wendy Vaughan seems to infuse her artwork with mystical powers. Backgrounds are layered with symbols and clothing vibrates with magical floating shapes. Her choice of colors are punched up to a level of saturation as to make her work seem otherworldly. Prominent colors in this painting are bright blues in the water, soft oranges in the cat's fur, and purple, gold and pink in the cat's garment. This artwork is framed in dark wood with painted gold inset. Wendy Vaughan Tricks oil on linen 23h x 29w in 58.42h x 73.66w cm Wendy Vaughan (maiden name Wendy Kornmiller) grew up in West Bloomfield, outside of Detroit, where her father was a car designer for Chrysler and one of the original designers of the Ford Thunderbird...

Horse No 1, 2002 / oil on canvas
By John Goodman
Located in Burlingame, CA
Running horse in a forceful, bold, abstract expressionistic style in pale hues of pink, blue, and brown and cream on Belgin linen. Goodman's oil paintings are a dichotomy of understated minimalism with reductive use of color that conveys a subtle, but evident smoldering energy. The artist uses heavy paint that he sculpts and draws into, as he forms a rich tactile field of painterly surfaces. Clearly, Bay Area influences are present in his work, particularly that of Nathan Oliveira, who Goodman was privileged to have had as his mentor. John Goodman's sophisticated and understated paintings, drawings and sculptures are exhibited coast to coast, have premiered at International Art Fairs, and are collected worldwide. A strong and exciting, magnetic work of art. Contemporary, 21st century, yet inspired and influenced by mid century, modern American painters...
