About the Item
Large contemporary oil on board of a bewhiskered cat kitten signed Gillian to the bottom left and presented in a silver metal frame.
An explosion of colour and fun. The bewhiskered kitten is larger than life and packed with energy through the application of bold fields of primary colours and its exaggerated body shape. This is a joyful example of art brut, outsider art where expression overrides form or realism.
Since the discovery of the "Lascaux" caves in the Dordogne in France in the mid 40s and the light shed upon its primitive cave paintings, art movements like CoBrA have influenced and still heavily influence new art forms today. This style of painting has become much more mainstream and respected for its earthy, pure and expressive qualities : its lack of perspective, its naive, raw, free and unexplainable, rule less form.
It is the raw expression of a vision or emotions, untrammelled by convention which some artists see as the Holy Grail.
