18th century Italian Old Master painting "The fable of the borrowed feathers" "The Fable of the Borrowed Feathers" is a classic tale that imparts a valuable lesson through a charming story. In this fable, a crow, initially content with its black feathers, becomes enamored by the vibrant plumage of peacocks. Driven by a desire to fit in and be more attractive, the crow borrows a few of these peacock feathers and attaches them to its own dull plumage. The transformed crow, bedecked in the borrowed splendor, parades around, garnering admiration from onlookers. However, the borrowed feathers are not a permanent addition and soon begin to fall off. As they drop away, the crow is exposed for who it truly is. The other birds, rather than mocking the crow, come to appreciate its true, natural beauty. They recognize that the crow, with its distinctive black plumage, has its own charm and uniqueness that make it special. This fable reminds us that true beauty and authenticity are more valuable than any attempt to imitate or be something we are not. It encourages us to embrace our unique qualities and be content with ourselves, as trying to be something we are not will ultimately lead to our true nature being revealed. The moral of the story is that it's better to be genuine and proud of our own qualities than to pretend to be something we're not. Giorgio Duranti (1683 – 5 November 1768) was an Italian painter and cleric of the Baroque period, mainly active in Brescia, where he was born. An entry in Dandolo's study of the late Venetian Republic states a 1755 as year of death, and that many of his works were in the Royal Gallery of Turin, which was the nucleus of the Sabauda Gallery. Duranti was also an abbot, count and knight. He studied sciences and music; he was known as an excellent player of the violoncello. He specialized in still life paintings of flowers. Many of those, he donated to the church of Palazzolo sull'Oglio who sold to the royal court of Spain. His brother Faustino (1606–1766), who became abbot after his brother's death, was also a painter specializing mainly in miniature portraits. Works by Duranti can be found in several museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the Fondazione Brescia Musei.
