About the Item

One of the nation’s most in-demand conservation/preservation artists, Jane Kim—who takes cues from the great tradition of science illustration including Audubon and other naturalists —inspires people to love and protect Earth, one work of art at a time. Kim's contemporary series of mixed media paintings and drawings, “non(NATIVE),” premiered at her Summer 2016 Artist in Residency at the de Young Museum of Art in San Francisco, CA. The series considered the relationships between native and non-native species, as well as how technology companies like Apple, Facebook, and Amazon shape urban ecosystems and our sense of place and belonging. The Kaleidoscope Monarch Butterfly acrylic painting on panel is the original work of art used to create an 8 story Migrating Mural public outdoor artwork at the Springdale, Arkansas Airport, USA. This important original acrylic painting is 74 x 36 inches (framed 76 x 38 inches). Meticulously painted in acrylic on a wooden panel and professionally framed in a museum quality pale ash wood floater frame. Clean, minimal and sophisticated using a controlled palette of grey with touches of color including orange, black, green and pink. By design, there is a wonderful "upward - vertically rising" feel to this painting that is the original work of art that was scanned and then printed on vinyl and aluminum at over 80 feet tall, to complete the public Monarch Butterfly Migrating Mural for the Arkanses USA airport. Jane Kim's Migrating Murals highlights animals along migration corridors they share with humans. The subject of the first Migrating Mural, produced between 2012-2014, was a series of Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep musrals . Kaleidoscope was created to draw attenton to diminishing populations of Monarch Butterflys and was painted in 2017. Jane Kims is also the artist who created the world;s largest ornithology mural at Cornell University in New York. A book called Wall of Birds in in production now that will be released late 2018. An artist signed copy of the book will be included with the sale of this painting.
