Jef Louis Van Leemputten, or Joseph Louis Van Leemputten, was a painter born in Werchter in 1865 and died there in 1948.
He was a painter of animals and landscapes.
This Belgian artist worked in a meticulously “Realist” style- specialising in the depiction of birds and rustic scenes.
He was the son of Jean-Baptiste Van Leemputten and pupil of Charles Verlat.
He participated in the preparatory competition for the Prize of Rome in 1886 and 1889. He worked in Antwerp for some time. Exhibited at the “Exhibition” organized by the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1898.
From the press: “This master is best known for his works in which animals, especially chicken and sheep, are the main theme so that many of his canvases show us a shepherd or a farmyard."
Various exhibitions have been held of his works in the USA, Europe, England and the United Kingdom.
