Paul JONES Oil on canvas This painting is signed Paul Jones on the botttom right. Canvas size: 20 x 25cm (8 x 10") Outside frame size: 36 x 41cm (14 x 16") Flourished 1855 – 1888 He was a painter of sporting scenes, very often of game dogs. He was an enthusiastic terrier man, depicting them rabbiting or chasing cats and rats. Included amongst his works are a number of shooting scenes. He is thought to be the son of the sporting artist S E J Jones (op. 1820-1849), Paul Jones also painted sporting subjects. His horse pictures were limited to the Highland ghillies’ ponies with their game bags on their backs, and he also painted sporting dogs. His works are known for their small dimensions and his careful painting technique and close attention to detail.
