I found this stunning hawk feather on a hike with my son. The title is from a poem by Anita Sams Let me be as a feather. Strong with purpose yet light at heart, able to bend. And, tho I might become frayed, able to pull myself together again.
About the Artist
Jennifer Ross grew up surrounded by the art of her mother and grandfather. Her attempt to follow in their footsteps presented detours, however, and she ended up working in art galleries selling other's work. But her desire to paint continued to grow throughout the years. In 2008, a gift certificate to a local art store turned into an epiphany when she decided to try painting. Jennifer found inspiration in a collection of antique prints of birds' nests and eggs by the English artist, F.O. Morris, and began to create an avian series. These paintings serve as symbolic family portraits of what we all hold dear - our home and loved ones. Today, she is often commissioned to paint various colored eggs representing patrons' family members.

- Alone Together, Original PaintingBy Emil MorhardtLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
A pair of sandhill cranes stand on opposite sides, their intense eyes seemingly watching each other's backs. Their stoic stance accentuates as the pond they inhabit fades into the grayish rainy mist of California's Central Valley in early winter. Rendered with a loose, watercolor-like technique, the birds' portrayal carries an expressive touch.About the Artist

He paints at home in a studio room that has large windows and a north-facing view of the mountains. Surrounded by this wildlife, Emil paints bird portraits reminiscent of those by artist John James Audubon. - Red-Tailed Hawk on the Hunt, Original PaintingBy Emil MorhardtLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
Artist Emil Morhardt paints a swooping hawk he observed circling the sky and then landing on a tall nearby tree. The bird inspects the many gopher holes nearby. Emil captures it just as it launches a successful attack—painting the plumage with fine detailed brushwork and intense colors against a pure white background. The piece embodies the essence of this powerful raptor.About the Artist

Initially recognized as a regionalist painter of American scenes, particularly of his native Chicago, Bohrod later devoted himself to detailed still-life paintings rendered in the trompe l'oeil style. He also worked for several years in ceramics and wrote a book on pottery. Born in 1907, Bohrod began his studies at Chicago's Crane Junior College in 1925, and two years later enrolled in the Art Institute of Chicago. But it was at the Art Students League in New York City, from 1930 to 1932, that he studied under the man believed to be his most significant early influence, John Sloan.
