A Dream to Soar by Texas artist Judy Crowe is an example of the Impressionist painters that the artist admires for their vibrant use of color and their individual brushwork. It’s quite a challenge to capture the feel of a time or place on canvas rather than a photo representation. Judy loved to draw as a child-mostly ladies in long beautiful dresses. At one point in time, she thought she might pursue clothes design as a career. Her mother passed away when she was 17 and after this experience she chose a sociology major in college. After having children of her own, Judy discovered painting. Judy began painting after a friend gave her lessons in her garage and afterward began taking classes from various artists. After a move to Houston, she began serious study and painting professionally. Having grown up in a home that did not value trips to museums or galleries, this was an entirely new adventure. Those few classes with a friend opened up the world of art for Judy. Artist's Statement I love the works of the Old Masters but the Impressionist painters are the painters I most admire for their vibrant use of color and their individual brushwork. As it did for the impressionists, everyday subjects inspire me. I love flowers and landscapes and appreciate the beauty of nature. It’s quite a challenge to capture the feel of a time or place on canvas rather than a photo representation. I’ve been featured in several national artists publications and have won many awards but while those honors are nice, the best reward ~ for me as an artist ~ is when a collector purchases a piece of work. My hope and goal is to add lasting value to the world we live in and perhaps capture a part of God’s wonderful creation to canvas. "My hope is to create a lasting representation of a moment in time that adds beauty and joy to the lives of others as much as possible. There is no greater compliment for me as an artist than to hear ~your work makes me happy." I paint because it’s the best way I know to communicate, study, and observe creative work that’s how Texas painter V…. Vaughan (the first initial stands for Virginia) describes her drive to create fine art. “It’s a calling,” she says of her life’s work, which has taken several twists and turns but has, nevertheless, led her down the path toward fulfillment. A lifelong Texan, Vaughan grew up in the Austin area and today makes her home in Round Rock, a suburb of the capital city. As a child, she exhibited a love of making art and played the role of the creative one among the seven children in her family, eventually working for several of her siblings as a sign painter and designer. Her parents forever encouraged her to appreciate and mine her passion, instilling in her that it was not simply a passing fancy, but an innate gift. “It was always conveyed to me that this was a God-given talent,” she says. Somehow that made me feel like it was something I was supposed to do. It gave me permission to pursue it. Vaughan attended college on an athletic scholarship, though she filled her schedule with art classes and subsequently secured an internship at an advertising agency. That introduction to the corporate world set her off in a new direction—she left school to parlay the summer job into a full-time position. She continued to work as a commercial artist for many years after that, winning several prestigious ADDY Awards and working on high-profile accounts for Samsung, the Lady Bird Johnson...
