This was taken from a plein aire painting near the castle where V....Vaughan was giving a workshop in 2022. 18 x 22 framed. V....Vaughan is know for her animal, Texas missions Italy, France and Gulf Coast paintings. . Also shown in photos are other paintings by in the "Small Works" collection. Photos were taken to show the detail of each painting. Her paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Gadsen Museum of Art, the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art and the Great Plains Art Museum as well as in countless private collections. In the fall 2023 she will teach a workshop at a castle in France, where artists will stay and enjoy the southern French food and scenes. Vaughan (the first initial stands for Virginia) describes her drive to create fine art. “It’s a calling,” she says of her life’s work, which has taken several twists and turns but has, nevertheless, led her down the path toward fulfillment. A lifelong Texan, Vaughan grew up in the Austin area and today makes her home in Round Rock, a suburb of the capital city. As a child, she exhibited a love of making art and played the role of the creative one among the seven children in her family, eventually working for several of her siblings as a sign painter and designer. Her parents forever encouraged her to appreciate and mine her passion, instilling in her that it was not simply a passing fancy, but an innate gift. “It was always conveyed to me that this was a God-given talent,” she says. Somehow that made me feel like it was something I was supposed to do. It gave me permission to pursue it. Vaughan attended college on an athletic scholarship, though she filled her schedule with art classes and subsequently secured an internship at an advertising agency. That introduction to the corporate world set her off in a new direction—she left school to parlay the summer job into a full-time position. She continued to work as a commercial artist for many years after that, winning several prestigious ADDY Awards and working on high-profile accounts for Samsung, the Lady Bird Johnson...

Image size: 40"H x 32"W. Born in Wisconsin on May 20, 1855. Straight appears to have migrated to northern California in the late 1870s. While a resident of San Jose and Grass Valley, he painted scenes of the northern coast and other scenic spots. After moving to southern California in 1912, he lived at the Southern Hotel in San Bernardino until his demise on April 5, 1922. A fine woodland scene oil painting with two birds by American artist Abbott Handerson Thayer (1849-1921). Thayer was born in Boston to a prominent family and attended the Chauncey Hall School, founded by his grandfather. His art teacher there was Henry Morse from whom he learned to do animal portraits. He studied at the Brooklyn Academy of Design with Lemuel Wilmarth, and after marrying Kate Bloede, he went to Paris for a year, as a student of Jean Leon Gerome. He was a member of the Independent Artists Association. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design and they have him recorded as living at 745 Columbus Ave., N.Y. in the year 1898. He also exhibited at the Allied Artists of America, which was established in 1914, Salons of America, N.Y. State Fair, Newark State Fair, Newark Museum and New York Museum of Science & Industry. Although there is little known about the personal life of George W. Drew, his paintings appear on the art market quite often.
