In the fall 2023 she will teach a workshop at a castle in France, where artists will stay and enjoy the southern French food and scenes. I paint because it’s the best way I know to communicate, study, and observe creative work that’s how Texas painter V…. Vaughan (the first initial stands for Virginia) describes her drive to create fine art. “It’s a calling,” she says of her life’s work, which has taken several twists and turns but has, nevertheless, led her down the path toward fulfillment. A lifelong Texan, Vaughan grew up in the Austin area and today makes her home in Round Rock, a suburb of the capital city. As a child, she exhibited a love of making art and played the role of the creative one among the seven children in her family, eventually working for several of her siblings as a sign painter and designer. Her parents forever encouraged her to appreciate and mine her passion, instilling in her that it was not simply a passing fancy, but an innate gift. “It was always conveyed to me that this was a God-given talent,” she says. Somehow that made me feel like it was something I was supposed to do. It gave me permission to pursue it. Vaughan attended college on an athletic scholarship, though she filled her schedule with art classes and subsequently secured an internship at an advertising agency. That introduction to the corporate world set her off in a new direction—she left school to parlay the summer job into a full-time position. She continued to work as a commercial artist for many years after that, winning several prestigious ADDY Awards and working on high-profile accounts for Samsung, the Lady Bird Johnson...Category

- High Country SpiritBy Cathy GoodaleLocated in Loveland, COHigh Country Spirit by Cathy Goodale Wildlife Elk Oil Painting image: 20x20" Gallery wrapped, no frame, edges painted black ABOUT THE ARTIST: “If you pay attention, art transcends all parts of life and makes the ordinary things in life ‘a painting’. My passion is nature, where everything connects for me. This energy saturates my work.” Cathy Goodale is a dedicated, persistent, and educated artist whose style reflects individuality. Her career has been filled with painting, teaching and learning. The demand for excellence, painting in oil and watercolor, continues to drive all of her endeavors and imagination pushes her to paint past ‘artistic safe places’. Growing up in Denver, Colorado, with an early introduction to art classics through her grandmother was instrumental in leading Cathy to Stephens College in Missouri and to a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Northern Colorado. She continued her art training at Denver University, studying commercial art under William Sanderson. Along with art, she has a degree in special education, but this career did not suit her. She knew that art would be her lifelong pursuit. The Estes Park resident maintains a busy schedule with monthly workshops at Loveland's Sculpture Depot and in Estes Park. Specific topics include techniques, color, detail and shapes. An established artist in her own right, Goodale's focus is on teaching. The classes typically run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with plenty of one-on-one instruction. Her teaching allows for travel to plein-air paint, she frequents Colorado, California, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Utah, Nebraska and Wyoming. But has also traveled abroad for workshops in Africa, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ireland, Spain, Italy, France and even Russia. These experiences of different cultures will always be one of her greatest learning and life moments. On one such adventure with 21 fellow artists, they used the subway system in Paris to go to selected locations to paint. Another trip was with internationally known Richard Schmid for two weeks traveling around Italy. Doing portraits of African children was another adventure. On a trip to Russia, Goodale presented a one-woman show. The opportunity to study with the best has been a gift. She has studied with Charles Reid, Richard Schmid, Burt Silverman...Category

- Loose Lips Sink Ships, Oil PaintingBy David ShepherdLocated in San Francisco, CA
Artist Comments
"The flowers hide the face so that you don’t make assumptions about the model, you focus on the beauty of existence," states artist David Shepherd. "You appreciate that they are a person without any impressions of their character. When I compose a painting I think back to my childhood memories. It ties in with what I was saying above. When you’re a child it’s much easier to make friends and enjoy people. That innocence allows for such pure emotion. I always try and get back to that feeling when I’m composing my work."About the Artist
Canadian artist David Shepherd fuses techniques from both old and modern masters to create contemporary interpretations of the human form. While offering strong nods to pop art and cubism, the work remains grounded by David’s training in 19th Century academic realism. Combining discrete techniques within a single tableau is initially jarring to the viewer, creating an unexpected visual complexity in the work and demonstrating the artist’s breadth of skills. “I think in the future we will be much more interested in works of art that show a mastery of multiple styles,” says David. Each artwork effectually suggests the surreal nature of human existence within a convoluted modern society.Words that describe this painting: flowers, floral, portrait, realism, hyperrealism, photorealism, hyperreal, face, beauty, eye, rainbow, calm, calming, love, lips, people, large, people, flora, realism, oil painting, pink
