Majio
Animals II: Turning into Something with Teeth

About the Item

Majio’s decade in Japanese culture sensitized her to animistic belief that everything has a beingness which augmented her yearly retreats to New Mexico where the animal life and weather are very much animated in the minds of the population. Animal II acrylic paintings on canvas express the heightened relationship of humans and animals as mediums for diviners, guides and visionaries. Some show animals in the act of becoming human, while others are humans slipping into animals. Animals have been a place-marker in our psyche since we were children through our pets and as animal stories that stretch our sensibilities, imaginations and potentials. Even adults in urban lives constantly dream of animals. We have all experienced turning into or wanting to turn into something with teeth. We have the need to get our teeth metaphorically into something and shake it, for our deeper understanding or theirs.
